Designer Oivind Slaatto found inspiration for the Swirl Pendant's unique shade from spirals found in nature and mathematics. Drawing on the shapes of a snail's shell of fractal patterns, the Swirl's PVC shade disperses light while concealing the light bulb to reduce glare. A Copper metallic coating on the upper side of the shade highlights the shade's sculptural design.
